7:03AM
Saturday mornings like this have become a ritual of sorts.
Sunwoo wakes up to the opposite side of the bed still empty. He hears Jaehyun say thank you to someone by the apartment door. Sunwoo knows that when he pads into the kitchen, eyes blinking away sleep, Jaehyun will be holding a McDonald’s paper bag. Then Jaehyun will smile at him and unpack their breakfast.
Sunwoo emerges from their bathroom feeling awake enough to attend a full hour class.
“Good morning,” Jaehyun says with his predictable smile as he kisses Sunwoo on the forehead. His hand makes its way under Sunwoo’s shirt and he gently squeezes Sunwoo’s waist. Their breakfast is already laid out on the table the way Sunwoo expects it to be.
“Good morning,” Sunwoo says, leaning in to kiss Jaehyun’s cheek. “I already brushed my teeth.”
“Okay,” Jaehyun says. He kisses Sunwoo the way he always does when Sunwoo asks, soft and warm against Sunwoo’s mouth.
(Sunwoo also knows that Jaehyun hasn’t slept yet and is grateful that he still indulges Sunwoo in little things such as kissing despite being exhausted from work. It is just a kiss but it lets Sunwoo know he is loved.)
4:12PM
Sunwoo towels his hair as he looks into the mirror, his newly-bleached hair glowing orange in the afternoon sun.
“It turned out nicely,” Jaehyun says. He’s sitting on the toilet cover waiting for Sunwoo to finish. “I don’t think I missed anything.”
Sunwoo keeps the towel around his shoulders as he turns to Jaehyun, who automatically opens his arms for Sunwoo to step between. “You didn’t,” Sunwoo says. He pulls at a wet strand of hair. “It looks good.”
“You always look good.”
“Thank you.”
Jaehyun puts his hands on Sunwoo’s waist. Another gentle squeeze. “I mean it.”
“I know,” Sunwoo says, moving to hold Jaehyun’s face in his hands. “Thank you.”
“Can I kiss you?”
“Please.”
“Thank you,” Sunwoo says again when they part.
Jaehyun hums and steals another kiss. “What for?”
“Breakfast,” Sunwoo says. “For bleaching my hair. For—everything, hyung.”
“You sound like you’re going to break up with me.”
Sunwoo shoves Jaehyun’s forehead with a finger. “Fuck you.”
“I’m kidding,” Jaehyun says, laughter evident in his voice. He pulls Sunwoo closer before he can turn away. “Thank you, too, for being patient with me. I know sometimes it gets hard to sleep alone.”
“It’s okay,” Sunwoo says. He plays with Jaehyun’s hair. “I always wake up to you, anyway.”
“Gross.”
“Stop ruining our moment!” Sunwoo says, pulling at Jaehyun’s hair. “You’re terrible.”
Jaehyun grins up at him, pressing his chin to Sunwoo’s chest. “You don’t mean that.”
“I could.”
“I love you.”
Sunwoo sighs. “I love you too.”
